ASTM1020 and ASTM1045 seamless steel pipe difference and scope of application

ASTM1020 and ASTM1045 seamless steel pipes are a kind of Carbon Steel Pipe, the difference is mainly reflected in the following aspects:
1. Material difference: ASTM1020 seamless steel pipe belongs to low carbon steel pipe, mainly used for fluid transportation and structural parts manufacturing, such as water pipes, oil pipes, boiler pipes and so on. The 1045 seamless steel pipe is a high carbon steel pipe, which is usually used for shafts, pins, rods and other parts requiring high strength and wear resistance in mechanical manufacturing.These two kinds of seamless pipes can be divided into Cold Drawn Seamless Pipe, cold rolled round pipe, Hot Rolled Seamless Pipe and other seamless pipes under different technical conditions.

2.Strength difference: 1045 seamless steel pipe due to its high carbon content, has higher strength and hardness, usually in tensile strength, yield point and elongation are better than 1020 seamless steel pipe. Therefore, in the need to withstand high load and wear resistant occasions, generally choose 1045 seamless steel pipe.

3. Processing performance differences: Due to the low carbon content of ASTM1020 seamless steel pipe, its welding and processing performance is relatively good, and ASTM1045 seamless steel pipe due to its high carbon content, welding and processing is more difficult, need to take special processing and welding process.
4.The difference in the use of the environment: 1020 seamless carbon steel pipe due to its good plasticity and toughness, in low temperature or high temperature environment can still maintain good performance, and 1045 seamless steel pipe in these environments the performance will be reduced. Therefore, in special circumstances, 1020 seamless steel pipe should be selected.
